Council has voted to retain the current structure of six elected members for each ward (East and West), the mayor elected at-large, and add two new citywide Maaori ward seats.

Consultation opened 25 August and we accepted feedback until 6 October. 

After that Council heard from those who wished to speak to their submission between 13-14 October. 

On 11 November 2021 Council voted to approve the final proposal to retain the current structure of six elected members for each ward (East and West), the mayor elected at-large, and add two new citywide Maaori ward seats.

Now this change has been publicly notified.

A Local Government Commission Appeal period is open from 17 November - 17 December.

After that the changes will be in effect ready for the next Local Government Election in October 2022!
